GLS launches new Vietnam – Cambodia transport route
The new cross-border route connects Ho Chi Minh City with Phnom Penh, expanding capacity to serve import-export customers across the Indochina region.
GLS has officially launched its cross-border container transport route between Vietnam and Cambodia, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the capital, Phnom Penh. It is the first international route GLS operates directly, marking the expansion of its multimodal network beyond Vietnam.
The new route combines inland waterway transport on the Mekong with a connecting road leg, allowing cargo to move from ICDs around Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh without passing through multiple intermediaries. The solution helps import-export businesses save 15–20% in cost compared with pure road transport, while reducing the risk of congestion at border gates.
A single point of accountability for the whole journey
With its own barge fleet and tractor units, GLS handles everything from cargo loading and border customs clearance to final delivery in Cambodia. Customers work with a single point of contact and track the journey in real time.
The route launches at an initial frequency of three sailings per week, expected to rise to daily service next quarter as demand grows. GLS has stationed a dedicated customs team at the border gate to shorten clearance times.
Opening the Vietnam – Cambodia route is part of GLS's long-term strategy to build a multimodal logistics corridor across Indochina, aiming to further connect Laos and Thailand in the next phases.
